The NAB AFL Rising Stars Program is a talent identification and development program that operates from grassroots through to the elite level. We’ve been backing the future of football for over a decade - supporting Australia’s most promising young footballers and local footy clubs around the country through the NAB AFL Rising Stars program since 2002.

Under 18 Championships

The NAB AFL Under 18 Championships take place from May to June each year, and see the best young talent from across the country take to the field in state and territory teams.

The Championships are split into two divisions - Division 1 which includes VIC Metro, VIC Country, WA, SA and the Allies; and Division 2 which includes NSW/ACT, NT, TAS and QLD. The Allies team in Division 1 are made up of the best players from the Division 2 Championships.

Teams play each other once, spread over a five-week period. The Championships are won by the team with the best win/loss record and percentage at the completion of all matches.

The NAB AFL Academy provides the best young football talent in the country with an opportunity to develop their leadership, personal and on-field skills in an accelerated 12 month program.

The program aims to prepare young players for the transition into senior AFL football.

Each year, 25 young players are selected from the NAB AFL Under 16 Championships to make up the Level 1 Squad, with 35 of the best Under 18 players in the country selected for the Level 2 squad. Players in the Level 2 Squad are eligible for the upcoming NAB AFL Draft.

Participants in the NAB AFL Academy are under the expert guidance of Head Coach Brenton Sanderson, along with Assistant Coaches Brad Johnson, Glen Jakovich, Matthew Lloyd and Brad Ottens.

The NAB AFL Under 16 National Championships are the beginning of the NAB AFL Rising Stars program, and see the best juniors from across the country compete for their state.

The Championships are a week-long carnival that take place during the mid-year school holiday break in July each year. The U16 Championships are a round-robin series split into three Divisions: Division 1 which includes VIC Metro, VIC Country, WA and SA; Division 2 which includes NSW/ACT, NT, TAS and QLD, and a third Division made up of the World XVIII, the Flying Boomerangs, the South Pacific, and WA North West.
